Tawas Lake Shoreline Debris Collection

Last summer, the City of East Tawas determined that they will no longer collect aquatic weed debris unless it

is contained in recyclable bags, consistent with the standard municipal yard waste collection program.

Recognizing the difficulty this poses lake residents, the TLA has met with City officials to discuss these changes.

We explained that the sheer volume of plant matter removed — particularly during the post-ice-out spring

season — is an extraordinary burden. Furthermore, the heavy, wet nature of the material collected makes

bagging extremely difficult. The City has been very cooperative, and the following plan has been agreed upon
