Tawas Lake shoreline property owners find it necessary to maintain their water's edge and public access areas by disposing of accumulated aquatic vegetation throughout the summer months. To effectively manage the disposal of this debris, the Tawas Lake Association has established a program specifically designed for the collection of unbagged aquatic plant waste. This initiative is vital for ensuring that the shoreline remains clean and accessible for all residents and visitors.

Member volunteers play a key role in this program, as they will periodically gather the accumulated aquatic vegetation from designated locations along the shoreline. After collection, these volunteers will transport the material to appropriate composting facilities, where it can decompose naturally and contribute to nutrient-rich soil. This sustainable approach not only helps maintain the beauty of Tawas Lake but also promotes ecological balance by recycling organic matter back into the environment. Pile it on at one of these designated pick-up points:

Rainbow Dr./Jay St.: The City lot located at the end of West Tawas Lake Rd. serves as a convenient drop-off point for residents living in this area. This location is easily accessible and allows for efficient collection of plant waste.

Warren Ave.: The city lot at 119 Warren Ave., and also at the end of N. Tawas Lake Rd. and the end of Clifford St., property owners can deposit their aquatic vegetation. These sites are strategically chosen to ensure that all residents have a nearby option.

 Maple Dr.: Residents can bring their plant waste to the city lot at 246 Maple Dr. and the lot at the end of Geller St. These locations are designed to accommodate the collection needs of the community, ensuring that the shoreline remains clear of debris.

Lakewood Dr.: For those living on Lakewood Dr., there are two designated drop-off points: the city lot at 301 Lakewood Dr. and the city lot at 337 Lakewood Dr., which is located near Owosso Dr. These sites provide convenient access for residents to dispose of unwanted aquatic vegetation.

If property owners choose street-side collection instead, it must align with standard City composting procedures. This means that all aquatic vegetation must be BAGGED securely and set out for collection during regular weekly recycling pickups. It is important for residents to adhere to these guidelines to ensure that the waste is collected efficiently and processed properly, contributing to the overall health of the community and the lake ecosystem.
